I joined My Beauty Is Me with 3 goals in mind. I wanted to 1) help people, 2) understand the logistics of running a non-profit organization, and 3) build more connections with the local community. Mainly supporting the co-founders in surveying and data analysis, I was able to bring my skill set in data to enhance their impact reporting and pre and post survey questions.
I was attracted to My Beauty Is Me because it is a Black-owned organization and provided a different avenues from other internships I was applied for. It was Black owned, plus it was different avenue from other jobs I was applying for. As an intern working directly with students, I was proud to offer a big-sister approach to mentoring.
I found My Beauty Is Me after looking for an internship to get class credit for. This opportunity helped me grow my confidence and strengthen my leadership skills while leaving me fulfilled by creating relationships and empowering young girls. Markayla and Andria fostered such a comfortable space for both me as a mentor and the mentees.
